Author Visit - Jamie FordOphir School Library
On Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00pm the FOL will be hosting a visit from Jamie Ford, author of best selling novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Ford’s novel begins with an event that happened in real life. In the opening pages, the fictional protagonist Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel—once the gateway to Seattle ’s Japantown, and still standing today. It has been boarded up for decades, but the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II
This book illuminates one of the most conflicted and volatile periods in U.S. history—at a time when we ourselves are re-evaluating our attitudes toward race, our commitment to war, and our vision for the future of our country, this makes a very interesting and compelling read.
