Big Sky Postal Service

Big Sky Post Office is a contract postal station overseen by the Federal System.
Our hours are: 10AM-5PM Monday-Friday
10AM-1PM Saturday

The Federal Post Office in Bozeman, Montana supervises our office.
Our mail comes to us via truck from the Butte, Montana Postal Distribution Center.
Our truck is scheduled to arrive at 9:30AM daily, but due to weather, traffic, and unforeseen circumstances it can be late.
All mail leaves Big Sky at 2:45PM each day.
There is only one delivery and departure each day.
We try very hard to have first class mail in the boxes by noon –IF the truck is on time.
All incoming mail must be addressed to post boxes or general delivery in order to be delivered. Our system does not support street addresses!
Our office offers most postal services with the exception of 24 hour express mail. We do offer a two day guaranteed service.
We do NOT receive UPS or FedEx parcels – they are delivered to your door by those companies.
DHL uses postal service in Montana, so expect delays of two or more days when using their service.
There is NO USPS home delivery in Big Sky.
We do offer both General Delivery and Post Box service.
We have Fee and No-Fee post boxes available.

To receive a Fee Post Box:
1. You must fill out an application (available at our counter).
2. Present a valid photo ID
3. Pay the application fee (based on box size).

To receive a No-Fee Box (ONE per physical address)
1. You must fill out an application in person (available at our counter).
2. Present two valid photo ID’s for each adult applying for the box.
3. Present a current legal document with your name and physical address (lease, deed, power bill, closing documents, etc.)

We request that box holders live in Big Sky at least three months of the year, as our space is very limited.
Part time residents are encouraged to use our General Delivery service which can be accessed Monday-Friday 10AM-5PM and Saturday 10AM-1PM. You must notify the post office that you would like to utilize this service, present a photo ID, and leave your name, a local address and phone number, so that we may contact you if necessary.
Contrary to common opinion, General Delivery IS a valid address for those planning to receive legal documents of any kind!
